The Emperor’s Sword Review

The first thing I noticed about The Emperor’s Sword was its impressive cinematic beginning, but that quickly turned sour. The CGI started to feel in your face the more it’s used. A bold attempt, probably inspired Game of Throne’s introduction but failed to leave the same impact.

The overused slow-motion effects left me cringing in disdain. No amount of slow-motion will salvage the poorly shot scenes. At some point, it leaves the audience thinking, what the hell am I looking at? The scene was out of focus. Badly.

The plot was not as bad as the effects. In fact, it was the glue holding the movie together. What would have improved the movie was if they used epic music to accompany the scenes. But alas, that was a missed opportunity. They did not.

Having said that, there were some insightful conversations with a young girl given the country’s responsibility for a legendary sword. The performances of the actors were fine. Overall, it was a pretty enjoyable family movie with a few misses here and there.

Verdict: 3/5
